Question: What was your biggest misconception about ECIU University before joining?

Alessandro Luzzani: I used to think that ECIU University was an alliance between European universities just for research purposes. This is a common misconception.  

After joining, I discovered an actual structured program for students with challenge-based courses – which completely changed my perspective. I got to explore student-centred learning opportunities and realised they go beyond the classic university experience thanks to their flexibility, accessibility, and diversity.  

Q: What has been your favourite ECIU University course or activity so far, and why?

Alessandro: For me, it’s definitely being a student ambassador and contributing to creating our student environment firsthand.  

As an ambassador, I focus on how to improve both the learning and the community experience together with other community members across Europe. We’ve joined efforts to see what we can do to make ECIU University a better place for students – through engaging new people and exploring new solutions.  

Together with some ambassadors, we have also been building a certificate framework for different learning achievements you obtain as part of ECIU University. This topic has been on the table for a while, and we will keep working on it in the future.  

Q: What is your funniest – or simply favourite – ECIU University story?

Alessandro: My university in Trento hosted the ECIU University Forum 2025, so I had the opportunity to show the university and the city to other European students.  

We had an incredible time during those three days, which I will never forget. And after the Forum ended, I organised an Italian aperitivo at my flat and sent an invitation in a group chat to see how many people would show up. I wasn’t expecting anything special – but more than 40 people joined!
