How can we help you?
Our FAQ selection has answers to over 40 questions about ECIU University. Browse the topics to find the information you need - or get in touch with us directly.
Account validation and identity validation
Some accounts are created with low assurance level, which means that an identification validation procedure is required. Having a low assurance level means that the identification of the account holder has not been sufficiently verified and could cause issues with receiving micro-credentials and other digital certification when completing a course. To increase the assurance level of your account, you need to follow 3 simple steps:
1. Send a request for an account verification/ identity validation to our IT Helpdesk by using the contact form.
2. Schedule a 5-minute appointment with one of our officers to verify your documents
3. Fill in a form before the meeting to provide your information and documents.
Once the process is successfully completed, your account’s assurance will be updated. This process does need to be repeated once it has taken place.
In case you are experiencing an issue with accessing our platforms, course catalogue or applying to courses, you can report this technical issue via our contact form.
When having issues accessing your ECIU account due to not being able to access the Microsoft Authenticator app, it is necessary to reset the Multi Factor Authentication of your ECIU account. To do that, send a request to our IT Helpdesk asking for a Multi Factor Authentication reset. Once this is done, try to login and you should be asked to re-register the MFA before being able to access your account.
During a Challenge, both your and local ambassadors can help you with a wide range of questions, such as application process, tips on travelling and local navigation, or finding designated contacts from the hosting university’s administration or staff to support you during this experience.
While local ambassadors can also give you advice on lodging, it’s better to contact the hosting university’s community coordinator for specific help on this matter. You can also reach out to them if you’re unsure whom your question should be addressed to.
Student ambassadors can provide you information on ECIU University and related activities, as well as share their experience with micro-modules and Challenges, or help you during learning opportunities.
If you want to learn more about ECIU University or need guidance participating in one of the Challenges or micro-modules, feel free to reach out to your or hosting university’s ambassador.
Yes! Being an ambassador is a great opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills for your future career, as well as build lasting connections – not just with other ECIU University learners, but also ECIU University staff members, researchers and external stakeholders from all across Europe.
There’s no set time limit. You can be an ambassador until you graduate or step down whenever you choose.
While it’s not obligatory, many student ambassadors get special opportunities to travel across Europe for their role. This may include such events as Student Leadership Training Program, the ECIU University Forum, and ECIU Learner Focus Groups, among others.
For instance, for the ECIU University Forum 2024 several ambassadors travelled to Kaunas University of Technology in Kaunas (Lithuania), while selected representatives participated in ECIU University Student Ambassadors Training Days at INSA Strasbourg (France).
Each ECIU University has its own selection process. However, any active student can apply if their university is currently looking for ambassadors.
To learn more about a specific university’s selection process and criteria, reach out to your local community coordinator or student representative. You will find their contacts on this page.
Any student can become an ambassador if they are studying at one of 13 member institutions and have previous experience with ECIU University activities (such as micro-modules and Challenges).
As long as you’re interested in contributing to the community, promoting ECIU University opportunities among students and supporting fellow learners, you’re welcome to apply.
Please check the other FAQs sections where you will find all the information regarding your ECIU journey as well as the specific information in each learning opportunity's page.
The schedule of a challenge depends on the kind of challenge that is being addressed and the decision of the team members regarding how they want to organise the work. This will be agreed during the first meetings of the challenge, when your team of learners have been formed.
If you are a resident in one of the ECIU member’s countries with a bachelor’s degree and you have a curious personality, or if you are a recent alumnus/alumna from an ECIU partner university, you are the perfect learner for our ECIU learning opportunities. A good command of English is necessary as all learning opportunities are held in English due to the international environment (with the exception of language micro-modules). If you are interested, you can contact us via this contact form.
A variety of challenges and micro-modules are open for continuous learners only or blended, where continuous learners will participate in the learning opportunity with university students. All the learning opportunities can be found in our platform. A specific label indicates which learning opportunity is open for continuous learners. Micro-credentials are issued digitally by ECIU. This allows learners to receive, store and share them online – for example, using the Europass platform – while also ensuring the micro-credentials are tamper-proof.
All 14 ECIU University member institutions recognize micro-credentials issued by ECIU. These micro-credentials can also be recognized by other European and international institutions since they follow European quality standards.
ECIU learning opportunities are known as challenges and micro-modules. Meanwhile, e-sealed micro-credentials are what learners receive after they have successfully completed either a challenge or micro-module.
Micro-credentials are tamper-proof, e-sealed credentials issued by ECIU, which adhere to European standards, and are quality assured by ECIU member universities.
Micro-credentials are issued upon successful completion of learning opportunities. The learner receives an email with a safe link to their credential and can then save it in either their Europass digital wallet or any other digital wallet compatible with European Digital Credentials. This allows effectively storing, accumulating, and sharing micro-credentials online.
A micro-credential is the record of the learning outcome obtained following a successful short volume of learning and issued against transparent and clearly defined standards (Council of Europe, 2022). Micro-credentials are awarded by ECIU University members and issued by the ECIU as per European standards. They detail the competencies acquired during the learning process, such as expertise level and ESCO (European skills, competencies, and occupations) demonstrated by the learner. By storing and sharing them online, learners can personalize their learning experience, showcase their competencies, and enhance their employability. Read more about micro-credentials here.
For questions on whether credits obtained by participating in an ECIU University challenge or micro-module or the workload spent can be recognised as part of your degree, please consult the student administration at your home university. We advise you to contact your home institution on beforehand to check how your ECIU University challenge or micro-module may fit with your academic plan, and whether it can be recognised as part of your degree or study program.
All learners participating in an ECIU University learning opportunity will receive at least a Certificate of Completion after successful completion of the challenge. In some cases, the learner will also receive proof of ECTS obtained and/or a Supplement mentioning more details for the work carried out (challenge description, learning outcomes and workload), which can be used for purposes of recognition (in the case of student learners). Other forms of credentialling, such as digital credentials will also be awarded for certain learning opportunities, with the aim to make this the prominent credentialing as of September 2023. Please note that this depends on the institution hosting the challenge and on whether the challenge is credit bearing or not.
Each ECIU learning opportunity offers a different number of credits depending on the learning outcomes and workload. All ECIU learning opportunities offer the possibility to gain certification, however not all challenges or micro-modules offer ECTS. Please check the information in each learning opportunity to find out more about the workload and ECTS or contact us via this contact form if you have any questions.
